Roll-off dumpsters save time and money

Roll-off Dumpsters Are Cost-effective for Construction Companies

When preparing for a new construction, demolition or a large cleanup job (i.e. spring cleaning), you have a lot to consider. High on the list is what to do with the waste—including old materials, packaging and debris created during the entire job. Let’s face it, there is usually a large amount of waste that needs to be temporarily stored, removed and eventually discarded. However, most municipality and local waste management companies simply do not allow for large amounts of waste to be disposed of during their weekly trash pick-up schedules. This is where roll-off dumpsters become a necessary part of almost any commercial and large private (home or office) projects.

Simply put, roll-off dumpsters allow for the most convenient and efficient way to manage waste removal at a site. For example, a 30-yard dumpster is equivalent to about nine or 10 pickup truck loads. And in this case, one is better than 10!

Roll-off dumpsters save time and money

A roll-off dumpster is exactly what it says it is: A flatbed truck will come to your worksite and literally roll the dumpster off at a predesignated location. After that, you can fill it to your heart’s content. (Note: Overfilling can be problematic—just to the top is quite sufficient.) After it’s filled, or when your job is complete, the same company will pick it up for you and take it to a designated waste disposal facility. The convenience of having a roll-off dumpster on-site can save both time and money. It also provides an easily accessible trash location for the employees on a worksite.

Another reason why roll-off dumpsters should be considered is that the type of materials being disposed of may need to be separated. In this case, having two dumpsters on site makes for a headache-free process. For example, an office renovation may contain a large quantity of computers and electronic devices. These usually need to be recycled or disposed of differently than other materials (See our E-Cycling blog post) Additionally, certain types of other waste may be proper for recycling, or even regulated by local, state and federal regulation if they fall under the hazardous waste material definition. Therefore, having the ability, on-site, to separate large quantities of materials is another factor which makes roll-off dumpsters convenient, safe and economical.

When considering whether you need roll-off dumpsters for your site, use the following guidelines:

  1. Are you engaging in a large construction, renovation or remodeling project?
These types of jobs usually create a large amount of waste. Old sheetrock, roof tiles, concrete, wood beams, plaster, fixtures, floor tiles, carpeting, excess materials, paint cans… and the list goes on. And don’t forget about all the packaging material that comes along, like bags and boxes. If you believe that you may need to haul five or more pickup trucks’ worth of material back and forth to the local dump, a roll-off dumpster may be the better option. It will also save on the wear and tear of your vehicles.

  2. Select a site for the roll-off dumpster.
The roll-off dumpster site should be convenient for loading materials into the dumpster. It should also not block the normal flow of traffic at the worksite. Finally, it should be readily accessible for pick-up when finished, or when it needs to be replaced. You might even consider having more than one, at different locations.

  3. Determine how many roll-off dumpsters you may need.
Planning makes perfect. Maybe you only need one roll-off dumpster for the entire job. Maybe you need more than one on a rotating schedule for pick-up and drop off. Or, maybe you want several at the worksite from the beginning to the end. It is never easy to predict the exact amount of waste a project may produce, but giving it some critical thought early in the process can help save time and ensure that the job is completed in a timely manner.

  4. Do you need to separate out different types of waste materials?
Some of the items at a site may be perfect for recycling or may have to be separated out according to type (i.e. old concrete and computers and electronic equipment). Considering whether you may need additional and alternative types of waste receptacles can go a long way in proper waste management for any project you are involved in.

When you choose roll-off dumpsters, you’re choosing a convenient and cost-effective way to manage waste.
